These roots anchor the continental plates and prevent them from shaking or sliding erratically over the fluid mantle layer. This mirrors the description in Surah An-Nahl (16:15):
وَأَلْقَىٰ فِي الْأَرْضِ رَوَاسِيَ أَن تَمِيدَ بِكُمْ...
"And He has set up on the earth mountains standing firm, lest it should shake with you..."
Why the "Peg" Analogy is Scientifically Accurate
The choice of the word "peg" is intellectually profound for three primary reasons:
Shape: Like a peg, a mountain is wedge-shaped with a deep vertical extension.
Function: Just as pegs stabilize a tent against the wind, mountains stabilize the Earth's lithosphere against the internal pressures of the mantle.
Proportion: Science confirms that the majority of a mountain's mass is hidden underground, exactly like a stake driven into the earth.
